DISCOVER WHAKAPAPA SKI AREA
Whakapapa Ski Area, Mt Ruapehu

Many kiwis discovered their first love of snow at Whakapapa’s premier learner facility, Happy Valley, while more advanced skiers and riders hone their skills, exploring 550 hectares complete with cruisy groomers, exhilarating chutes, and remnants of old crater rims, on their descent from 2320m. Whakapapa is also home to the Sky Waka gondola, New Zealand’s longest gondola which takes guests on a 1.8km journey up to 2020m above sea level. It offers panoramic views out across the Tongariro National Park and delivers guests to the architecturally award-winning Knoll Ridge Chalet, the highest year-round eatery in New Zealand.

Our operations on Mt Ruapehu are at mercy of the elements, and the climatic effects of being atop the North Island’s peak, unprotected from any direction, add a sense of drama but also magic to our slopes. The terrain is naturally formed by volcanic terrain, making it vast and diverse, and better flowing. Made by nature, enhanced by our expert team. This guarantees variety, creativity, and excitement. Pick your line, 20 different ways, there is no chance to get bored.

Lots of off piste skiing! Pretty cheap! Not to crowded once I was out away from the main lifts. I love going off piste and this is perfect.
